BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team defeated the Citadel Bulldogs 6-1 Thursday evening at the Samford Tennis Center. The match was Samford's final home match of the season.
 
This victory gives the Samford Bulldogs a 10-9 overall record and a 2-4 conference mark for the season. The Citadel falls to 9-22 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
 
"The Citadel fought very hard today, and we had to earn our wins on each court," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "Daniel (Orlita) did a good job earning our fourth point, and we fought hard to gut out some tough three setters today."
 
In singles play, Samford took home five out of the six matches. On court two, Daniel Orlita won his match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 . On court three, Aleksandar Petrovic won his match 6-1, 6-1. On court four, Max Rebol won his match 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. On five, M.A. Bellalouna earned a 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 victory. And on court
six, Jack Lyttle won his match 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
 
In doubles play, the Bulldogs dominated on all three courts. On court one, Orlita and Lyttle won their match 6-3. On court two, Rebol and Petrovic won their match 6-2. On the third court, Rossouw Norval and Bellalouna won their match 7-5.
 
The next match for the Bulldogs will be on the road against the Mercer Bears on April 13 at 10 a.m. This will markSamford's last match of the regular season. Following that match, the Bulldogs will  then return to Macon, Georgia for the 2019 Southern Conference tournament. The tournament will begin on April 18 and run through April 20.
