BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team clinched a series win with a 6-2 victory over The Citadel in the second game of a three-game Southern Conference series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
With the win, Samford improves to 24-11 overall and 7-1 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel falls to 10-24 overall and 3-8 in league play.

- Sonny DiChiara went 2-for-5 with two home runs and two RBI to lead Samford in the win.
- Anthony Mulrine went 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI for Samford.
- Brooks Carlson also homered, driving in one run in a 1-for-5 performance.
- Billy Creger (2-0) pitched 1.2 hitless innings in relief to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- For The Citadel, Tyler Corbitt went 3-for-4 at the plate.
- Ben Paden went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
- Alex Bialakis (0-4) tossed 1.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs on one hit to take the loss for The Citadel.

- The Citadel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a home run by Paden in the top of the first inning.
- In the second inning, Samford's Mulrine hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1.
- Samford knotted the score at 2-2 on DiChiara's first homer of the game in the fifth inning.
- Samford took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning on another solo home run by DiChiara.
- The Bulldogs put the game away with three runs in the eighth inning. Taylor Garris stole third base and came home on an error for the first run of the inning. The final two runs of the game came in on Carlson's two-run home run to make the final score 6-2.

Samford and The Citadel will conclude their three-game series with a game Sunday. The contest is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
