Auburn, Ala. – Samford University's track and field team made the short trip to Auburn, Alabama to compete in the Tiger Track Classic. The meet took place over two days on Friday and Saturday.
In the women's 100 meter dash, sophomore
Hannah Lueders finished 14
th overall with a time of 12.14 seconds. Lueders also competed in the 200 meter dash where she placed in the top eight with a 24.37 second time. She finished sixth overall in the event.
Vada Samuels competed in the 200 meter as well for Samford. She finished 28
th with a time of 25.50 seconds.
Samuels later competed in the 400 meter run where she placed 20
th after posting a 58.06 second time.
On the men's side of the sprints,
Emmanuel Tait placed 10
th with a time of 10.72 seconds. Freshman
Titus Moore finished 27
th with an 11.18 time and sophomore
Jack McHugh finished 28
th overall at 11.19 seconds. Freshman
Ben Rooker also finished 43
rd for Samford with an 11.52 second time.
Samford's
Jordan Oballe competed in the 200 meter dash and finished 36
th. Oballe ran the event in 22.95 seconds.
Jordan Woodbine competed for Samford in the 400 meter run. The freshman finished 20
th with a 49.65 second time. Sophomore
Warren Fitzpatrick also competed and finished 25
th after a 50.29 second time.
Freshmen
Jake Maddox and
Seth Corey were the only Bulldogs who competed in the 800 meter run. Maddox finished 21
st and Corey finished 23
rd. Both ran the event under two minutes with Maddox turning in a 1:57.44 time and Corey finishing in 1:58.17.
Samford had two runners finish in the top eight in the women's 1500 meter run. Both
Veronica Lyle and
Lindsey Biggar turned in sub-five minute times. Lyle finished second overall with a 4:39.34 time while Biggar finished seventh with a 4:49.77 time.
Joyner Bousquet and
Hunter Poole competed in the men's division of the 1500 meter run. Bousquet finished eighth overall with a 4:04.21 time while Poole finished 10
th after a 4:05.11 event.
The top two finishers in the women's 5,000 meter run were from Samford. Sophomore
Mary Grace Strozier won the event with a 17:10.64 time. Her teammate,
Shian Mallory, finished right behind her in second with a time of 17:22.07. Samford's Mary-Kellison Thorne,
Anna Huntington and
Lauren Granier also competed in the event. Thorne placed fourteenth overall with a 18.11.84 time, Huntington placed 24
th with a 19:00.71 time, and Granier placed 26
th with a 19:14.85 time.
Four Bulldogs finished inside the top ten for Samford in the men's 5,000 meter run. Junior
Dillon Dean won the event with a 14:57.28 time.
Ben Bryant placed third overall after turning in a 15:12.51 time. Junior
Brad Cheek and senior
Paul Richardson finished seventh and 9
th with times of 15:21.55 and 15:29.92 respectively.
In the women's 100 meter hurdles,
Sarah Sanford finished inside the top eight. She placed sixth with a time of 14.58 seconds. Four more Bulldogs competed in the event as well. Junior
Erin Hines finished 14
th with a 15.42 time while senior
Qiona Payton finished 20
th with a 16.26 time. Freshman
Caroline Huff and junior
Lauren Beard finished 22
nd and 25
th respectively with times of 16.72 and 20.81 seconds.
Sanford also competed in the 400 meter hurdles event and once again placed in the top eight. Sanford finished fourth overall with a 1:03.07 time.
The men's 110 meter hurdles event had three Bulldogs compete and finish the event.
Titus Moore and
Michael McMahan once again competed in the event. Moore finished fourth with a 14.34 time, while McMahan finished sixth at 14.58 seconds. Sophomore
Jack McHugh placed 11
th with a time of 15.08 seconds.
In the 400 meter hurdles.
Jordan Oballe and McMahan once again finished inside the top eight. McMahan finished sixth with a 53.59 second time and Oballe finished seventh with a 53.85 second time.
Warren Fitzpatrick came in 19
th after a 56.62 second time.
The men's 3000 meter steeplechase saw Ben Garner compete once again for the Bulldogs. The Opelika native placed inside the top three in a performance that had him close to home. Garner finished with a 9:26.09 time in the event.
In field events,
Charlotte Krause finished sixth overall in the women's high jump. The junior from Samford posted a jump of 1.60 meters. On the men's side, senior
Keyth Fightmaster finished third overall with a 2.10 meter jump. Freshman
Justin Stuckey also competed for the Bulldogs and had a 2.05 meter jump that placed him sixth overall.
Krause also competed in the women's triple jump and went for 11.14 meters, landing her a 29
th place finish in the event.
The women's high jump saw two Bulldogs finish in the top eight as well. Junior
Charlotte Krause finished fourth overall with her highest jump coming in at 1.61 meters. Freshman
Megan Elliott came in seventh and had her highest recorded jump at the meet be 1.56 meters.
Two Bulldogs finished in the top five of the women's pole vault event. The sophomore duo of
Tally Wilson and
Jackie Barnes finished second and fourth overall. Each had vaults of at least 3.80 meters. Wilson's highest was recorded at 3.96 meters while Barnes' was listed at 3.86 meters.
The men's pole vault invite had junior
Hunter Schlatter place fifth overall with a 4.45 meter vault recorded as high highest of the day.
Erin Hines and
Madeline Ballard both excelled in the women's long jump for Samford. Hines finished with a distance of 5.54 meters, good enough to place in the top five and finish fifth. Ballard finished in the top eight at seventh with a 5.46 meter final distance.
Caroline Huff also competed in the event, finished 23
rd with a recorded distance of 5.04 meters. Thomas Ozburn was the highest finishing Bulldog on the men's side after having a 6.69 meter distance recorded for the sophomore.
In the women's shot put,
Maggie Johnston and
Tatiana Taylor of Samford finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Johnston finished with a distance of 13.46 meters while Taylor finished with a 13.37 meter distance thrown.
Taylor and Johnston also competed in the women's hammer where they finished eighth and 10
th after throws of 52.08 meters and 48.85 meters.
Johnston also competed in the discus event where she threw 51.32 meters, landing her second overall in the event.
Matt Cahoon threw in the discus event for the Bulldogs and finished inside the top eight at sixth overall. The sophomore finished with his longest distance thrown on the day of 43.74 meters. Cahoon also finished eighth overall in the men's hammer throw after a 45.91 meter performance and eighth in the javelin throw with a 55.13 meter distance.
Freshman
Ethan Brown finished right behind him with a 45.16 meter distance in the event, as well.
In the women's javelin throw, freshman Emorie Long threw for 36.32 meters and finished seventh overall among those in the event – her first top eight finish.
Both the men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Samford-Alabama Track Challenge at the Samford Track off Lakeshore Drive this week. The meet will be both Thursday, April 11
th and Friday, April 12
th.
