BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Presbyterian Monday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 1-1 on the young season. Presbyterian falls to 0-2 with the loss.
"Today was a total team effort from the boys," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "I'm extremely proud of the way we competed, on and off the court. Our character, work ethic and ability to play for each other today, when our backs were against the wall, won us this match today. The upper classmen really stepped up today and played extremely convincing and confident tennis. The freshmen showed a lot of fight today and represented what our team is about. The doubles point was huge, as always, and they did a great job fighting for that point."
Samford won the doubles point, taking the matches on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to earn the first point of the match.
In singles, Samford won on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 courts to secure the victory. Presbyterian earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, and the Blue Hose won on the No. 6 court by default.
