BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Wednesday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. The Bulldogs defeated North Alabama, 4-0, and then took down Alabama A&M, 7-0.
With the sweep, Samford is now 3-3 on the season. North Alabama falls to 0-7, while Alabama A&M is currently 0-2.
"Today was a good day for us," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "We got to compete a ton and I saw us improve throughout the day. Anytime you play a double-header, you have to be prepared to play a lot of tennis and I think we did a good job today, especially in the doubles, getting off to quick starts and setting the tone early with our energy. Timmy did a great job in our second match, getting his first college tennis singles win. Everyone is working hard right now and I am seeing improvements."
In the North Alabama win, Samford earned the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. The Bulldogs then won the singles matches on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 courts to secure the 4-0 win.
Against Alabama A&M, Samford took the doubles matches at No. 1 and No 3 to pick up the first point of the match. The Bulldogs then took all six of the singles matches to close out the 7-0 win.
Samford will host Alabama State Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center. Admission to the match is FREE.
