Carlson And DiChiara Ranked Among Top 100 Hitters In College Baseball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Samford junior second baseman Brooks Carlson and sophomore first baseman Sonny DiChiara were both named among the top 100 hitters in the nation by D1Baseball.com Tuesday.
 
Carlson was ranked 22nd on the list, while DiChiara came in at 63rd in the nation.
 
D1Baseball.com ranked the top 100 hitters in college baseball based on a full season of 2019 statistics and four weeks of 2020. To qualify, a hitter must have a minimum of 150 plate appearances in 2019 and 35 in 2020.
 
In 2019, Carlson led Samford with a team-high .345 batting average, leading the team in both hits (78) and doubles (17). He also hit six home runs and drove in 41 runs. In the 15 games of the 2020 season, Carlson ranked second in the nation in batting with a .500 (25-of-50) average with four doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.
 
DiChiara tied for 12th in the nation in home runs with 21 as a freshman in 2019. He batted .293 with a team-high 55 RBI. In the shortened 2020 season, DiChiara batted .328 with three doubles, two home runs and a team-high 21 RBI.
 
Samford won the Southern Conference regular-season title in 2019, posting a record of 41-19. The Bulldogs had gotten off to a hot start in 2020, starting the season with an impressive 13-2 mark before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
