FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Phillip Ervin

Phillip ErvinBIRMINGHAM, Ala. - On June 6, 2013, The Cincinnati Reds selected Phillip Ervin in the first round of the MLB Draft, making Ervin the first player in Samford Baseball history to be drafted in the first round.

After a rapid rise through the minors, Ervin made his MLB debut for the Reds on April 22, 2017 versus the Chicago Cubs. In 94 games last season, the Mobile, Ala.a, native hit .260 with 11 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs and drove in 23 runs. 

Ervin, a three-year starter for coach Casey Dunn, hit .337 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs for Samford his junior year, following a summer performance that led toi him being named the Most Valuable Player in the prestigious Cape Cod League,
