BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Despite the effects of COVID-19 on the spring competition season, Samford University Athletics enjoyed a banner semester, as 140 Bulldogs were named to the Dean's List with 54 earning perfect 4.0 GPAs for the spring. In total, Samford's 360 student-athletes earned a cumulative 3.38 GPA for the semester.
"We're extremely proud of the work our student-athletes put in academically this semester among all the challenges and distractions that came with COVID-19,"
Martin Newton, Director of Athletics, said. "I also want to thank Assistant AD for Academics
Paige Mathis and her staff for their efforts with our student-athletes this year and for their willingness to adapt to constantly changing conditions in March and April."
The Bulldogs finished the spring with a cumulative 3.38 GPA. Of Samford's 360 student-athletes, 211 earned a GPA between 3.0-3.99 while 54 garnered perfect 4.0 GPAs.
"The commitment our student-athletes and coaches place on their academic pursuits is without question and I can't state enough how proud we are that their resolve held true during this unprecedented time," Newton added.
A total of 140 student-athletes were also named to the Dean's List, including a department high 29 from Football and 20 from Women's Soccer.
"Our top priority each year is to equip our student-athletes to earn a degree and pursue championships in a Christ-centered environment," Newton said. "We will have 65 student-athletes walk across the stage during August's graduation ceremony and many of them were a part of our eight Southern Conference championships this year."
