SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior midfielder
Mary Raymond was named the Southern Conference's Student-Athlete of the Week when the league released its weekly academic award Wednesday afternoon.
Raymond scored what would eventually be the game-winning goal in Samford's 2-0 NCAA Tournament first round win over Auburn last Friday night. She netted the goal in the 61
st minute of the contest to break the scoreless tie and give Samford a 1-0 advantage.
For the season, Raymond leads the team with nine goals. She was named to Most Outstanding Player of the SoCon Tournament earlier this month, and she was also named second team All-SoCon.
Academically, Raymond has a 3.98 GPA in Kinesiology at Samford. She has been named to the SoCon's Academic Honor Roll for the last two seasons and was also a member of the SoCon's Academic All-Conference team last season.
Raymond and the Bulldogs will take on St. John's in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Friday in Durham, N.C. The game is set for a 3 p.m. (CT) start, and it can be seen live on ESPN+ at the following link:
