HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Florida plated three runs in the first inning, Samford cut the lead to 3-1 when Kaden Dreier homered to left-center field in the fifth inning.
- After the Gators scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, Samford's Sonny DiChiara hit a solo home run to left-center field in the sixth inning to make the score 4-2.
- Florida plated five runs in the sixth inning, eight in the seventh and one in the eighth inning to make the final score 18-2.
ON THE MOUND
- Jesse McCord (0-1) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up four runs, just three earned, on four hits to take the loss for the Bulldogs.
- Jack Leftwich (1-0) earned the win for Florida, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on two hits.
NOTABLES
- Sonny DiChiara and Kaden Dreier both hit solo home runs to lead Samford at the plate.
- Nathan Hickey homered and drove in six runs for the Gators.
