BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team earned its first win of the 2021 spring season with a 3-0 victory over Western Carolina Friday night at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

With the win, Samford improves to 1-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

KEY PLAYS

Alex Bice gave Samford the lead when she dribbled through four defenders to net her first goal of the season in the 31^st minute of the match.
Taylor Yount took a cross from Layla Brown into the box and scored her second goal of the season in the 62^nd minute for a 2-0 Samford lead.
Ella Simpson scored her first career goal in the 82^nd minute to make the score 3-0.

FROM THE BOX SCORE

Samford goalkeeper Morgan McAslan had three saves in posting the shutout for the Bulldogs.
Yount led Samford with four shots, with three coming on goal, and the one goal.
Simpson took two shots, both on goal, and scored the one goal.
Bice scored on her lone shot in the contest.
Western Carolina goalkeeper Melody Mezzina saved three shots for the Catamounts.
