SAMFORD VS. TROY GAME NOTES
 
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will host in-state rival Troy for a midweek game Tuesday at 6 p.m., and The Citadel in a three-game weekend SoCon series at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The weekend series is set for a single game Friday at 4 p.m., and a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

• Samford and Troy have met 69 previous times, with Troy holding a 44-25 lead in the series. The series has been much closer in recent years as Samford has a record of 13-18 against the Trojans in 16-plus seasons under head coach Casey Dunn. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford earning a 6-5 win at Troy.
• Samford and The Citadel have met 33 previous times, with Samford owning a 23-10 series lead. The teams did not meet last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last meeting came in 2019, with Samford sweeping the three-game series in Birmingham.

• The Bulldogs will attempt to complete a season sweep of Troy after earning a 6-5 win over the Trojans earlier this season.

• Towns King is off to a hot start, leading the team with a .324 batting average.
• Jacob Cravey is scheduled to start Tuesday night's game on the mound for Samford. He has a 1.84 ERA in nine appearances. This will be just his second career start for Samford.

 
NEWS & NOTES

• Samford head coach Casey Dunn, already the winningest coach in Samford history, enters the week with 515 career wins, making him the first Samford coach in any sport to win 500 games. Dunn has won four conference titles, and has posted 12 30-win seasons during his 16-plus seasons at Samford.
• Samford senior reliever Carson Cupo was named the SoCon's Pitcher of the Month for March, and senior starter Jesse McCord earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors Monday. Cupo went 4-0 with a save in the month of March. McCord struck out 10 batters and allowed no earned runs in 6.0 innings of work last week.
• Since 2011, Samford has amassed a record of 199-101 at Joe Lee Griffin Field. So far this season, Samford is 11-3 in home games. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Samford accumulated an 8-0 record in the friendly confines of Joe Lee Griffin Field.
