JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nine Samford track and field athletes are locked in for the NCAA East Preliminaries to be held at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
The Bulldogs have a total of nine athletes competing across nine different events, with senior
Michael McMahan set to compete in two different events for the Bulldogs. The NCAA East Preliminaries are going to be held across four days with the men competing on Wednesday and Friday, and the women competing on Thursday and Saturday.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH:
- Michael McMahan is the only Bulldog competing in multiple events at the NCAA East Regionals where he will run in the men's 110-meter hurdles and the men's 400-meter hurdles. Both events are scheduled to have first round heats on Wednesday, with quarterfinals on Friday. McMahan is coming off of an excellent performance at the SoCon Championships where he claimed the titles in the men's 110-meter hurdles (13.98, w3.7) and the 400-meter hurdles (51.00).
- Titus Moore will join McMahan in the men's 110-meter hurdles with the opening round scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday. Moore set a new SoCon Outdoor Championships record at the 2021 Outdoor Championships running a 13.97 in the preliminaries, and taking home the silver in the final.
- Maggie Johnston hit her personal best and program record mark of 53.35 meters (175' 0") in the women's discus throw twice this season most recently at the Lee University Last Chance Meet. Johnston will be the lone competitor for the Bulldogs on Saturday where the women's discus is currently set for 12:30 p.m. CT.
- Jose Penalver will take the track on Wednesday to compete in the men's 800-meter run which is set for 6:50 p.m. CT. Penalver qualified for the NCAA Regionals following his performance at the Lee University Last Chance Meet where he finished with a time of 1:49.33.
- Benjamin Garner has posted back-to-back personal bests in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase where he is the reigning SoCon champion winning the event in 8:57.78, a time that set a new program record, before Garner broke his own record at the Lee University Last Chance meet with a time of 8:50.81. The men's 3000-meter steeplechase is set for Friday at 5:10 p.m. CT.
- Justin Stuckey's dominance in the men's high jump continued at the SoCon Outdoor Championships where he set a new SoCon record with a jump of 2.19 meters (7' 2.25"). Stuckey's personal best and program record jump of 2.21 meters (7' 3") came at the War Eagle Invitational on April 17, 2021. The men's high jump is set for Friday, May 28 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
- Jed Sisco also posted his personal best at thee War Eagle Invite where he notched a vault of 5.10 meters (16' 8.75"). Sisco is the reigning SoCon champion in the men's pole vault, and will be making his first NCAA Preliminaries appearance. The men's pole vault is scheduled for Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. CT.
- Matt Cahoon will join Sisco in tomorrow's field events where he will compete in the men's javelin throw at 12:30 p.m. Cahoon is coming off an career best performance at the 2021 SoCon Championships where he won the javelin throw with a mark of 67.87 meters (222' 8").
