GREENVILLE, S.C. – In case you missed it, the Samford baseball team earned a dramatic 10-8 walk-off win over Mercer in the first round of the SoCon Tournament Thursday night at Fluor Field. The Bulldogs won the game on a two-run walk-off home run by second baseman
Brooks Carlson.

Casey Dunn, click on the videos at the bottom of this story.
"I was just trying to move the guys over, trying to do my job," Carlson said. "I wasn't really trying to do too much. I knew I was in a 1-0 count there and I just tried to take advantage of it, tried to hit something hard move the runner over, but it just all worked out."
Carlson's home run delivered the win, but it was far from all he contributed to the victory. Carlson went 4-for-6 with a double, a home run and two RBI in the game. Dunn praised Carlson's performance.
"The guy is the best hitter in this league," Dunn said of Carlson. "It's a shame he got off to a bad start and didn't really get the recognition he deserves for the type of hitter he is and the type of conference player that he's been. Obviously, he had unbelievable swings tonight. Not just the last home run, he had several good swings in the game."
The Bulldogs (33-22) will take on Western Carolina (27-19) in the second round tonight at 6 p.m. (CT). WCU advanced to tonight's game with a 16-5 win over Wofford Thursday. To follow that game, click on the following links:
