BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will play a pair of Southern Conference matches in the Volunteer State, taking on Chattanooga on Friday at 5:00 p.m. (CST) and ETSU on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Both matches will be streamed live on
ESPN+.
Samford (13-9, 8-2 SoCon) comes into the week winners of its last seven in a row and sitting in second place in the SoCon standings. The Bulldogs posted a 3-0 sweep over UNCG on Oct. 21 and a 3-1 win over against Western Carolina on Oct. 22. The Bulldogs are a perfect 7-0 in the month of October, posting a .269 hitting percentage and an average of 15.48 kills per set during the month.
Samford currently leads the SoCon in four different statistical categories, including hitting percentage (.234), assists per set (12.49), kills per set (13.95), and service aces per set (2).
The Bulldogs rank 7th nationally with an average of two aces per set and is one of just eight division I team to average two or more aces per set. They additionally rank 10th in the nation with 160 total aces.
Kate Morgan was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Monday. The sophomore libero totaled 56 digs over last week's action, with a career-best 37 against WCU. Morgan currently leads both the Bulldogs and the SoCon in digs per set with an average of 4.69
In the middle,
Greer Golden leads the squad with 60 blocks while
Kate Wonus ranks second with 57. Wonus ranks fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.322) and Golden fifth (.295).
Junior setter
Kayla Keshock, who was named the SoCon setter of the month for September, currently sits second in the SoCon with a pace of 9.54 assists per set. Freshman
Samantha Horn has come on strong as of late and is averaging 5.32 assists per set.
Morgan currently leads the conference and ranks 16th nationally with 41 service aces. She also ranks 21st in the country with an average of 0.51 aces per set. Keshock ranks second in the conference in aces per set (0.41) while
Andie Salasky and
Lauren Deaton rank ninth (0.34) behind leader Morgan.
On the offensive side,
Kenya McQuirter leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the conference in kills per set (3.84). McQuirter is averaging 4.34 kills per set against league opponents. Deaton's 3.15 kills per set ranks seventh in the SoCon.
Chattanooga (12-13, 6-4 SoCon) fell 3-0 at Furman in their most recent contest on Oct. 22. The Bulldogs have won seven of their last nine against the Mocs, including a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 1 earlier this season.
ETSU (15-7, 9-1 SoCon) has won their last three contests and sits atop the SoCon standings. Despite falling 3-0 in their most recent meeting on Sept. 30, Samford has won six of its last eight against the Bucs.
