BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of SoCon matches, beginning with an Oct. 8 contest at Furman and concluding with an Oct. 9 matchup at the Citadel.
Both matches will begin at 3:00 p.m.(CST) and be streamed live on
ESPN+.
Samford comes into the weekend ranked fifth in the SoCon after going 1-1 at home last weekend. The Bulldogs salvaged their home stand with a 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga on Oct. 1.
Kenya McQuirter led the Bulldogs with 18 kills against the Mocs while
Kate Wonus registered 11 kills and a .688 hitting percentage while committing zero attack errors.
Wonus currently sits second in the SoCon with a .376 hitting percentage, a mark that additionally ranks in the top 50 nationally.
As a team, the Bulldogs currently rank second in the conference in both kills per set (13.41) and assists per set (12.22). McQuirter ranks third in the conference with an average of 3.72 kills per set while
Lauren Deaton (3.12) and
Gracie Lynn Butler (2.95) both rank in the top 10 in the conference in kills per set.
Junior setter
Kayla Keshock was named the SoCon setter of the month on Thursday after averaging 10.95 assists per set over 12 matches in September. Keshock leads the SoCon and ranks in the top 30 in the nation with an average of 10.55 assists per set. She is currently the lone player in the league averaging double-digit assists per set.
On the defensive side,
Kate Morgan leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the SoCon in digs per set at 4.21.
Greer Golden and Wonus both pace the Bulldogs with 42 blocks each.
The Bulldogs come into the weekend leading the SoCon and ranking 15th nationally with an average of 1.97 service aces per set. Morgan additionally leads the conference and ranks 13th in the nation with 31 aces. Keshock (24) ranks third and
Andie Salasky (19) sixth.
The Bulldogs have won ten-straight against Furman and hold a 20-18 advantage in the series. Samford has won eight of its last 11 matches with The Citadel, despite dropping their last two. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 20-4.
