BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will play the final two games of its 2022 home slate this weekend, hosting Furman on Friday and The Citadel on Saturday.
The Bulldogs will hold their "Title IX Anniversary Celebration" during Friday's match while Saturday's contest with The Citadel will wrap up Homecoming Week at Samford. Both matches will be streamed live on
ESPN+.
Samford Volleyball comes into the week looking to bounce back after dropping a pair of road SoCon games this past weekend. The Bulldogs fell 3-0 at Chattanooga on Oct. 28 and 3-1 at ETSU on Oct. 29.
Kenya McQuirter led the Bulldogs with 30 kills over the weekend, logging 16 against ETSU and 14 against Chattanooga.
Kate Morgan registered 37 digs, highlighted by 23 at ETSU.
The Bulldogs continue their postseason push, coming into the week ranking third in SoCon standings. The Bulldogs sit three games behind top-seed ETSU and one game behind Western Carolina for second place.
Samford continues to dominate the stat sheet, coming into the week leading the SoCon in four different team statistics. The Bulldogs lead the league in hitting percentage (.230), assists per set (12.51), kills per set (13.98), and service aces per set (1.99). The Bulldogs' 1.99 aces per set ranks sixth nationally while their 173 total aces rank 13th in division I.
Middle Blockers
Kate Wonus and
Greer Golden both rank in the top five in the SoCon in hitting percentage. Wonus sits fourth at .299 and Golden fifth at .288.
The Bulldogs have saved their best performances for conference play, where they are averaging a SoCon-best 15 kills per set, 13.26 assists per set, 2.02 services aces per set, and a .245 hitting percentage that ranks second in the league.
Morgan, who has twice been named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week in October, sits atop the SoCon in both digs per set (4.72), service aces (42), and service aces per set (0.48). The sophomore libero ranks 18th nationally in total aces and 28th in aces per set.
McQuirter ranks second in the league in kills per set (3.87) while
Kayla Keshock sits second in assists per set (9.34). Keshock also ranks second in the league in aces per set (0.42), while
Andie Salasky ranks eighth (0.33) and
Lauren Deaton 10th (0.32).
McQuirter has put up the best attacking numbers in SoCon play, averaging a league-best 4.33 kills per set versus conference competition.
Greer Golden ranks third with a .351 hitting percentage in SoCon action.
