CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The third-seeded Samford men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over sixth-seeded UNC Greensboro in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament Thursday evening at The Champions Club.
 
Samford improved to 7-13 with the win, while UNC Greensboro ends its season with a mark of 6-16. Samford advances to take on the No. 2 seed Furman in Friday's semifinal round at 1 p.m. (CT).
 
After UNC Greensboro won the doubles point, Samford tied the match when Harrison Williams defeated Christopher Johns, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. UNCG took the lead again with a win at No. 4 singles, but Samford's J.B. Pickard won at No. 5 singles, taking down David Flisberg, 6-2, 6-4 to knot the score at 2-2.
 
UNC Greensboro won at No. 2 singles to take a 3-2 lead. Samford then had to win the two remaining singles matches to advance. At No. 3 singles, Eladio Fabregas defeated Hugh Knapp, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to make the score 3-3. The match came down to the No. 1 singles match, and Samford's Mohammed Ali Bellalouna earned a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 win over Nico Grewe to give Samford the 4-3 win.
