CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The third-seeded Samford men's tennis team reached the finals of the Southern Conference Tournament with a 4-2 win over the second-seeded Furman Paladins Friday afternoon at The Champions Club.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 8-13. Furman falls to 15-9 with the loss. Samford will now take on top-seeded ETSU in the championship match Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT). The winner of the tournament earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
In Friday's match, Samford earned doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead in the contest. At No. 2 doubles, Yerrassyl Murat and Harrison Williams defeated James Roelofse and Emil Westling, 6-4. On the No. 3 doubles court, Eladio Fabregas and Matthew Gooch earned a 6-1 win over Ben Cahill and Drew Singerman.
 
In singles, Furman tied the score with a win on the No. 2 court. The Paladins then took a 2-1 lead with a victory at No. 6 singles. Samford tied the score again when Mohammed Ali Bellalouna defeated Ivan Mitric, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, Fabregas took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Elijah Poritzky for a 3-2 Samford lead. The Bulldogs secured the win when J.B. Pickard defeated Westling, 6-0, 6-3 on the No. 5 singles court.
