MURRAY, Ky. – The Samford women's golf team sits in first place after the first round of the Murray State Jan Weaver Invite, held Friday at the Miller Memorial Golf Course (Par 72, 6,024 yards).
Due to inclement weather, the teams only played one of the scheduled two rounds on Friday. The teams played first round through hazardous conditions that included snow, sleet and high winds. The teams will wrap up the tournament with one final round Saturday.
"I'm proud of how we battled and survived in these tough conditions," Samford head coach
Joe Davidson said. "I hope we can continue to play well in the final round tomorrow."
Samford shot a team round of 309 on Friday to lead the 10-team field. North Carolina A&T and Evansville are tied for second with identical scores of 312.
Individually for Samford,
Sophie Membrino leads the 63-player field with a first-round score of one-over-par 73.
Bailey Dunstan stands in second with a score of 74 in Friday's opening round.
Kelley Topiwala is tied for 14
th with a score of 79, while
Mary Kate Horton is tied for 37
th at 83.
Christian Williams is currently tied for 44
th with a first-round score of 85.
