Samford Baseball To Host No. 20 Auburn At Hoover Met Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team will host 20th-ranked Auburn at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets by clicking here: GET TICKETS. The game can also be seen live on ESPN+.
 
  • Samford enters the week with a mark of 24-25 overall and 10-8 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs dropped two-of-three games at The Citadel over the weekend. The Bulldogs earned an 8-6 win over defending national champion Mississippi State last Tuesday night. 
  • Auburn has a record of 35-16 overall and 15-11 in SEC play. The Tigers took a pair of games from Alabama over the weekend, with the third game being rained out.  
  • Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Cole Fryman Tuesday night. Fryman has no record and an ERA of 10.80.
  • Auburn is set to start right-hander Jordan Armstrong. Entering the game, Armstrong has a record of 3-1 and an ERA of 5.46.
  • Samford and Auburn have met 101 times, with Auburn holding a 75-25-1 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Auburn taking a 4-1 win at Plainsman Park. The teams played at the Hoover Met last season, with Samford taking a 6-1 win.
  • Entering this weekend, Samford leads the Southern Conference in fielding percentage at .973.
  • Stephen Klein currently leads Samford and ranks sixth in the SoCon in batting with a .350 average to go along with his eight doubles, five home runs and 31 RBI. Colton Ledbetter leads the team and is tied for sixth in the SoCon in homers with 13, and he leads the squad in RBI with 42.
  • Auburn is led by former Samford star Sonny DiChiara, batting .399 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 45 RBI. Blake Rambusch is hitting .368 with 11 doubles, four homers and 36 RBI.
  • Samford players rank in the top five in the Southern Conference in several statistical categories entering this week.  Stephen Klein ranks fourth in the league in on-base percentage (.466) and first in hit-by-pitches (16). Maurice Hampton Jr. ranks fifth in the SoCon in stolen bases (13). Garrett Staton is tied for second in being hit by a pitch (14). Carson Hobbs is tied for first in the league in saves (9) and he ranks second in games finished (16). Jacob Cravey and Jalon Long are both tied for fifth in games started (13).

  • Samford will wrap up its regular season by hosting Mercer in a three-game Southern Conference series. The teams are scheduled to play Thursday at 4 p.m., Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
