SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford student-athletes Matt Cahoon and Hannah Daffin, and head coach Rod Tiffin all earned Southern Conference postseason awards when the league released its outdoor track and field superlative award winners Wednesday afternoon.
 
Cahoon was named the Male Most Outstanding Field Performer, Daffin was tabbed as the Female Most Outstanding Field Performer and Tiffin was named both the Men's Coach of the Year and Women's Coach of the Year.
 
At the recently completed Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Samford, Cahoon placed in the top five in four of the five events in which he competed. He placed second in the javelin throw (65.45 meters) and the discus throw (48.53 meters), third in the hammer throw (54.15 meters) and fifth in the high jump (1.90 meters).
 
For the outdoor season, Cahoon placed in the top five eight different times. He was named the SoCon Field Athlete of the Week on March 23, and he earned Field Athlete of the Month honors for the month of March.
 
Daffin won a pair of events at the SoCon Championships last week. She won the hammer throw (53.60 meters) and the shot put (14.38 meters). She also placed fifth in the discus throw (37.04 meters).
 
In total, Daffin placed in the top five in seven events during the outdoor season. Her performance in the shot put at the SoCon Championships was a personal best.
 
Tiffin continued to add to his already impressive resume this season. He led the women's team to a third-straight Southern Conference Outdoor Championship, while the men have now won back-to-back outdoor titles.
 
Samford will next compete in the Tennessee Challenge on May 7 in Knoxville, Tenn.
