SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford men's and women's track and field team hosted a meet this weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Bulldog's strong performance at the Samford Invite earned two individuals,
Bradley Franklin and
Jess Edwards, accolades from the Southern Conference office when they released their athletes of the week this afternoon.
Franklin earns the SoCon men's track athlete of the week for the second time already this season. The Bulldog sophomore, dominated the field in the 60m hurdles. He crusied through the prelims before finishing with a blazing 7.60 seconds final that earned him the win and was the fastest time in the world in the 60m hurdles this season.
Running for the first time in the indoor track season, Edwards took first place in the women's 800m. In her first race as a Bulldog, Edwards ran 2:08.05 which beat the field by over four seconds. Her time placed her in the top-10 in the country after her season-opening race.
The Bulldogs return to action on Feb. 1 when they return to the Birmingham Crossplex at the South Alabama Invite.
