The Chris Hatcher Show Returns for the 2022 Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With game week upon the Samford football team, the Chris Hatcher Show made its season debut on Monday evening.

The show, hosted by Kevin Blackwell and featuring head football coach Chris Hatcher, will look back at the previous week's football game and look forward to the upcoming contest.

Samford is coming off a 4-7 fall 2021 season and looks to return to the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Much like other FCS programs around the country, the Bulldogs have spent fall camp prepping for the upcoming season while also breaking in faces in new places.

"We brought in a lot of new faces, especially on the defensive side of the ball," Hatcher said. "We have a new defensive staff led by Chris Boone, who is no stranger to the Southern Conference or the OVC or the FCS level. The thing that has pleased me the most is how quickly our team has jelled together with all the new faces. You come around our building, you think these guys have been friends for a long time."

Along with blending the new faces, coach Hatcher has spent the offseason focusing on the quarterback battle.

"We have been very fortunate to have Devlin Hodges, Chris Oladokun and Liam Welch lead the way in the seven years that I have been the coach," Hatcher said. "I think we have some very quality guys right now that in a few years, people will be asking "how are we going to replace them?" I think we've got some options there and I think all of them are pretty good."

Defensive Coordinator Chris Boone comes to Birmingham for his second stint at Samford after spending the 2021 season at East Mississippi Community College and brings with him a high energy level and a new look on the defensive side of the ball.

"I think we will be a little more multiple in what we do defensively, and I think we will have just a little bit tougher harder edge about the way we play defense," Hatcher said. "I have been really pleased with the way those guys have practiced and the way they have been playing. Hopefully we will be much improved on that side of the ball."

Samford opens the 2022 season by hosting Kennesaw State on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. Tickets are on sale now at SamfordTickets.com
