Baseball Begins Fall Slate with First Team Practice on Monday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball team took part in its first full team practice of the fall on Monday afternoon.
 
"As an entire program we couldn't be more excited about getting on the field today as a team and getting started," Head Coach Tony David said. "It was a perfect weather day for us which just adds to the overall experience. Our guys have been working like crazy the last few weeks. There is obviously a lot to work on and implement throughout the fall, but I am looking forward to seeing this group compete on the field against each other before we head to Ole Miss next weekend."
 
The Bulldogs will hit the road to play a pair of scrimmages against Southeastern Conference opponents this fall beginning with a Saturday, Oct. 8 contest at defending national champions Ole Miss. Samford will then trek to Nashville, Tenn. on Sunday, Oct. 23 to take on Vanderbilt.
 
"The ability to go off campus and take on outside competition raises our fall season to another level," Coach David said. "We have always played the best competition we could in the spring and are excited to have added our two fall opponents in Ole Miss and Vanderbilt in the upcoming months. Ole Miss is coming off a national championship under Coach Bianco and Vanderbilt has been as consistent as it gets on the national level for a long time under Coach Corbin. I have tremendous respect for both programs and their head coaches. Our guys will be excited about going to those environments and playing top-level competition."
 
In his first season at the helm in 2022, Coach David's squad posted a record of 28-29. The Bulldogs earned series victories against five of their seven SoCon opponents, finishing 12-9 in league action to earn the no. 3 seed in the postseason conference tournament.
