Volleyball Closes Out Home Slate Against Furman and Wofford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will play its final two home matches of the 2023 campaign, hosting Furman on Thursday and Wofford on Friday.

Before Friday's contest, seniors Lilly Smith, Kayla Keshock, Kate Wonus, and Audrey O'Brien will be recognized as a part of Senior Night.

Samford Volleyball went 1-1 on its most recent road trip, falling 3-0 at the Citadel and bouncing back with a 3-1 win at UNCG. The Bulldogs posted their third-highest attack percentage of the season in the win over the Spartans, hitting .358 for the match.

Kaleigh Meritt hit .441 in the win with 17 kills while Gracie Lynn Butler posted her seventh double-double of the season, logging 13 kills and 12 digs while posting a .367 attack percentage.

Sophia Plasman posted a career-high nine kills against UNCG while Kayla Keshock stuffed the stat sheet with 26 assists, five block assists, and four kills.

Both Butler and Meritt rank in the top five in the SoCon in total kills, with Butler (348) sitting second and Meritt ranking tied for fifth (246). Butler comes into the week ranking 12th in the country with 348 total kills and 16th with an average of 4.41 kills per set.

Middle blockers Kate Wonus (.284) and Greer Golden (.273) rank eighth and ninth in the SoCon in hitting percentage while junior libero Kate Morgan sits sixth in the league with an average of 3.85 dig per set.

Samford boasts a 23-19 record over Furman and has won 13 of its last 14 matchups with the Paladins, including a victory in the championship of the SoCon Tournament on Nov. 20, 2022. The Bulldogs will look to avenge a 3-2 at Furman its last time out on Sept. 30.

Despite falling 3-0 at Wofford on Sept. 29 earlier this season, the Bulldogs hold a 21-8 advantage over Wofford and have won seven of the last 10 meetings.
