Stanton Tabbed As SoCon Offensive Player of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior running back Jay Stanton was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Month when the league announced its November awards on Tuesday afternoon.

This is Stanton's first SoCon Offensive Player of the Month honor of the year and the first of his illustrious Bulldog career.

To finish off his time in Birmingham, Stanton rushed for 291 yards on 31 carries with a touchdown during November. The senior arrived 9.4 yards per rush throughout two games.

In the 27-17 upset win over UT Martin on Senior Day, Stanton rewrote the Samford record books as the senior rushed for a career-high 193 and a touchdown. The score moved Stanton past Brady Jones for the most rushing touchdowns in a career with 35. Stanton's 193 yards on the ground are the most by a Bulldog in a single game since Fabin Truss racked up 219 yards against Elon in 2012.

On the year, Stanton became the first Bulldog in the Chris Hatcher era to lead the SoCon in rushing yards with 971 on 147 carries and 11 touchdowns. Stanton also caught 23 passes for 130 yards and a pair of scores out of the backfield to earn First Team All-SoCon honors from the coaches and the media.
