BATON ROUGE, La. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 12-0 decision in seven innings at top-ranked LSU Saturday evening at Alex Box Stadium.
With the loss, Samford falls to 6-8 on the year. LSU improves to 14-1 with the win.
For Samford,
Lucas Steele went 1-for-3 with a single to lead the Bulldogs at the plate.
Brody Westbrooks (0-1) tossed 2.2 innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits to take the loss on the mound.
LSU homered five times in the contest. Jared Jones hit a pair of three-run home runs. Tommy White also hit a three-run shot, while Dylan Crews hit a two-run homer and Brayden Jobert contributed a solo shot. Ty Floyd (3-0) earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings without allowing a hit.
LSU got off to a hot start, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The runs came on a two-run home run by Crews and a three-run homer by Jones for a 5-0 Tiger lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, Jones hit his second three-run home run of the game to push LSU's lead to 8-0. Jobert followed with a solo homer to make the score 9-0. The Tigers added another three-run homer, this one by White, in the fourth inning to make the score 12-0.
Samford and LSU will wrap up their series with a game Sunday morning. The contest is set for an 11 a.m. start and it can be seen live online on
SEC Network+.
