Pro Dogs: Week One

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2023 NFL campaign kicked off over the weekend with three former members of the Samford football team on active rosters and one on a practice squad. 
  
Past Samford standouts James Bradberry is on the Eagles, Nick Williams is with the Chargers and Michael Peirce plays for the Ravens. Montrell Washington is a member of the Chiefs' practice squad. 
   
James Bradberry (Samford - 2012-15)
Week 2 Schedule: Colts at Eagles (Thursday, 7:15 p.m. CT)
Former Bulldog great and All-Pro cornerback James Bradberry had four tackles and a pass defection before leaving the Eagles' 25-20 win over the Patriots with a concussion. 
 
Nick Williams (Samford - 2008-12)
Week 2 Schedule: 49ers at Chargers (Sunday, 3:05 p.m. CT)
After signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason, Williams recorded a tackle and recovered a fumble as the Chargers fell 36-34 to the Dolphins. 
    
Michael Pierce (Samford - 2013-15)
Week 2 Schedule: Ravens at Bengals (Sunday, 12:00 p.m. CT)
After missing most of the 2022 season with an injury, Michael Pierce tallied three tackles and recovered a fumble in the Ravens' 25-9 victory over the Texans. 
   
Montrell Washington (Samford - 2017-21)
Week 2 Schedule: Chiefs at Jaguars (Sunday, 12:00 p.m. CT)
After being released by the Broncos during the preseason, Motrell Washington was signed to the Chiefs practice squad. The Chiefs fell 21-20 to the Lions on Opening Night.
