SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford University soccer team earned a dominating, 5-0 win at Wofford Sunday afternoon at Snyder Field.
With the win, Samford improved to 5-3-3 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference play. Wofford fell to 3-6-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Samford was led by
Mary Raymond with two goals in the win.
Layla Brown,
Taylor Yount and
Kyla Reynolds also had a goal each.
Whitaker Buchanan and
Nikki Bario both contributed assists in the victory.
Brown got the scoring started right away, scoring just 29 seconds into the contest for a 1-0 Samford lead. Raymond added her first goal of the contest in the 11th minute to make the score 2-0. Yount then scored off an assist from Buchanan in the 28
th minute and Samford took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Raymond got the scoring started in the second half, netting her second goal, this one off an assist from Bario, in the 54
th minute of the game. Reynolds added the game's final goal in the 59
th minute to make the final score 5-0.
As a team, Samford outshot Wofford, 15-5. The Bulldogs had nine shots on goal, to none for the Terriers, and Samford had nine corner kicks, to just one for Wofford.

Zoe Clevely played the first 71 minutes in goal, combining for the shutout with
Emma Donley, who played the final 19 minutes of the contest.
Samford will return home to host the VMI Keydets on Thursday, Sept. 28. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start from Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to all home soccer games is FREE.
