SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior forward
Whitaker Buchanan was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week when the league released its weekly women's soccer awards Tuesday afternoon.
In two games last week, Buchanan netted two goals and assisted on a third goal as Samford earned a 4-2 win over Mercer and a 2-2 draw at ETSU.
In the win over Mercer, she assisted on the game's first goal in the 12th minute. After Mercer tied the score, Buchanan scored a goal in the 21
st minute to put Samford ahead for good. Against ETSU, with Samford trailing 1-0 in the 70
th minute, she scored on a penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1.
For the season, Buchanan has three goals and a team-high seven assists. She is tied for the team lead in points with 13 so far this season.
This week, Samford will wrap up its regular season by playing host to UNC Greensboro on Sunday, Oct. 27. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start from Shauna Yelton Field.
