BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team will host a pair of SoCon matches this week, taking on Mercer Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Furman Friday, also at 6:30 p.m., both in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Samford enters the week with a record of 9-5 overall and 3-1 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs swept a pair of matches last week, taking down Western Carolina (3-0) Friday and ETSU (3-0) Saturday.
 
Following the weekend, Samford's Kaleigh Meritt was named the Southern Conference's Offensive Player of the Week. In the win over Western Carolina, Meritt tallied 19 kills and 11 digs. In the victory, she posted an impressive .409 attack percentage. She then had 11 kills and eight digs in Saturday night's victory over ETSU.
 
Additionally, Lexi Thatcher was named the league's Setter of the Week. Thatcher had 37 assists in the win over Western Carolina. She followed that up with a 32-assist performance against ETSU.
 
For the season, Thatcher leads the Southern Conference in assists per set, averaging 10.44 assists per set. Meritt ranks second in the league in kills per set, with an average of 3.77.
