Bulldog Track And Field Wraps Up Action at South Alabama Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a week off to conclude the month of January, the Samford track and field team opened February with a competitive showing at the South Alabama Invitational held at the Birmingham Crossplex on Sunday.

In total, 15 Bulldogs finished in the top three of their respective events including three claiming first place.

Cagan Campbell paced the men's side by winning the 200m with a time of 21.59 and placed second in the 400m after running the event in 48.71 seconds. Titus Moore joined in Campbell's winning ways with a time of 7.82 seconds to take the top spot in the 60m hurdles.

In the field events for the men, the pole vault duo of Walker Smith and Brenden Vanderpool finished in a tie for second with jumps of 4.77 meters. Ian Jones placed second in the triple jump with 14.64 meters. Rounding out the men's medalist for Sunday, Arthur Chitty's high jump of 2.01 meters gave the freshman a third-place finish in the event.

On the women's side, Amiel Dabney took home the top spot in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds. Freshman Bella Edwards ran 10:13.44 in the 3000m to claim second in the event. In the weight throw, Hannah Daffin's toss of 17.57 meters placed her second. Grace Gamboa earned her first podium of the indoor season with a 1.69-meter leap to finish third in the high jump. Ellison Chadwick placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.74 meters. To conclude the meet, the Samford women's 4x400 meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:51.46.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Feb. 9 at the Bulldog Invitational and the Vandy Open.
