BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford baseball team dropped the final game of its weekend series with Charleston Southern, falling by a score of 12-7 Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Despite the loss, Samford won the series with the Bucs, two games to one. With the loss, Samford fell to 10-5 on the season. Charleston Southern now has a record of 7-9.

Samford was led in the loss by
Cade Carr, going 2-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBI.
Cullen Horowicz also homered for Samford, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Will Lynch (1-2) took the loss on the mound for Samford, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up four runs, just two earned, on six hits.

For Charleston Southern, Chandler Tuupo went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Christian Bauman went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and four RBI. Zac Robinson (1-0) pitched 5.0 innings in relief, giving up six runs on five hits to earn the win for the Bucs.

Charleston Southern tallied four runs in the top of the first inning and Samford plated a run in the bottom of the second to make the score 4-1. The Bucs added four runs in the top of the fourth inning and three more in the top of the fifth inning for an 11-1 CSU lead.

Samford came back with two runs in the sixth inning on a home run by Horowicz to make the score 11-3. After CSU plated a run in the top of the seventh inning, Carr hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 12-7.

Samford will next play a four-game series at Purdue, March 15-17. The teams are scheduled to play a single game Friday at 3 p.m., a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 12 p.m.
