
Bulldogs Place Second At SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Samford women's golf team finished second at the Southern Conference Championship, held Sunday though Tuesday at Moss Creek Golf Club (Par 72, 6,036 yards).
The Bulldogs had their best day of the tournament Tuesday, firing a 292 to finish with a three-round score of 892 (302-298-292), placing them second in the nine-team tournament. The second-place finish is the highest for Samford in the SoCon Championship since joining the league in 2008. ETSU won the event with a final score of 879 (293-296-290).
"Our ladies played hard again today and I'm proud of the effort they've given all week," Samford head coach Joe Davidson said. "Congratulations to Stefanie (Shelton) and ETSU, they played a great tournament. Finishing second is a testament to how hard we worked. I'm proud of Bailey (Dunstan) and Kelley (Topiwala) for ending their collegiate careers on a high note. For the ones coming back, this is something we can build on for next season."
Freshman Gabi Nicastro shot a four-under-par 68 on Tuesday to finish tied for third in the 45-player field with a final score of 218 (74-76-68). Senior Bailey Dunstan also finished in the top 10 with a three-round total of 221 (72-72-77), placing her in a tie for sixth. Fellow senior Kelley Topiwala placed 12th with a final score of 226 (81-72-73).
Christian Williams finished 24th with a three-round total of 231 (79-78-74). Grace Engel tied for 26th at 233 (77-79-77). Anna Morgan from Furman took home individual medalist honors with a final score of 214 (70-75-69).
The SoCon Championship concluded the 2023-24 season for Samford.
