BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford volleyball team will open Southern Conference play by playing at Wofford Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) and at Chattanooga Sunday at 2 p.m. (CT).

Samford enters the week with a record of 6-4, following going 1-2 in the Alabama Showdown last week, earning a win over UAB and falling to Auburn and South Alabama.

Samford was led in last week's tournament by
Kaleigh Meritt with 39 kills and 31 digs.
Kate Morgan had a team-high 50 digs in the tournament, while
Lexi Thatcher tallied 114 assists over the three matches.

Samford's
Gracie Lynn Butler enters this week with 994 career kills, putting her six kills away from reaching the 1,000-kill mark for her Samford career.

Samford has been led so far this season by Meritt with 141 kills, while Butler has 116 kills. Morgan has a team-high 141 digs and Thatcher has 410 assists.

Thatcher currently leads the Southern Conference in assists per set at 10.00 per set. Meritt ranks second in the league in kills per set, with a 3.62 average.

Samford and Wofford have met 29 previous times, with Samford owning a 21-8 series lead. The teams played three times last year. Each team won at home in the regular season. The teams also played in the championship match of the SoCon Tournament, with Wofford winning, 3-1.

Samford and Chattanooga have played 55 previous times, with Chattanooga leading the series, 35-20. Last season, the Bulldogs earned a pair of 3-0 sweeps against the Mocs.
