SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Samford led the Southern Conference with 50 representatives on the Fall Academic All-SoCon team, released by the league Thursday morning.
 
To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
 
The Samford football team led all Bulldog squads with 18 members on the team. The soccer team had 12 representatives on the team, followed by women's cross country with eight and volleyball and men's cross country with six each. A total of 13 Samford student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
 
As a conference, the league's 10 women's soccer teams led the way with 115 Academic All-Conference selections, while the nine football teams were second with 110 and the 10 women's cross-country programs were third with 62. The nine volleyball teams and ten men's cross-country teams had 48 selections each, and the six men's soccer teams followed with 44.
 
Samford led all schools with 50 members on the Academic All-Conference team, followed by Furman with 49. Wofford finished with 47, while Mercer and Western Carolina each had 46 members.
