JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (19-25, 12-25, 25-22,18-25) match at ETSU Friday evening.
With the loss, Samford are now 9-13 overall and will continue Southern Conference play at 4-7. ETSU improved its record to 17-3 overall and continue league play at 11-0.
For Samford in the loss,
Ally Cordes had 20 kills while
Tatelyn Brandsma collected 22 assists, and
Kaleigh Meritt had 12 kills and 10 digs.
ETSU was led by Whitley Rammel with 13 kills while Alex Kreutzmann tallied 30 assists.
In the first set, ETSU opened with an early 3-0 lead, but Samford battled back and a service ace from
Emma Sorensen put the Bulldogs within one, making it 9-10. After several kills from the Bucs and a couple errors from the Bulldogs, ETSU took the opening set, 25-19.
In the second set, ETSU similarly to the first set opened with an early lead. Bulldogs couldn't find a lead in the set and the Bucs ended up winning the second set, 25-12.
Samford started set three strong with a quick 3-0 lead before ETSU came back to keep it within one until back-to-back kills from Cordes made the score 22-20. Bulldogs took set three due to an error from the Bucs, 25-22.
Set four opened with a block assist from Meritt and
Janie Stinchcomb. This point set up a back-and-forth set between the Bulldogs and Bucs until a couple errors from the Bulldogs and kills from the Bucs gave ETSU the match, 25-18, and the set 3-1.
Samford will continue their conference road trip on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Wofford. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start.
