BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Samford Women's basketball team defeated the Montevallo Eagles on their Education Day, 75-53. This game was also the Bulldogs home opener for the 25-26 season.
Head coach Matt Wise starts his first season at Samford as head coach with a win.
"We had a collective effort as the coaching cliché goes, ten different people scored for us, I thought we really hung our hats on the defensive end." said Wise after the game.
In the middle of the first quarter Bulldogs went on a 9-point scoring run which was started by Sophomore guard
Briana Rivera with a three pointer. This is Rivera's first game as a Samford Bulldog and would go on to lead Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points, 15 of those points coming from behind the arc.
"I am very excited to be a Bulldog…Blessed to be under this staff, my teammates are amazing people, I wouldn't be able to go out there and do what I do without them." said Rivera.
A total of ten bulldogs scored in today's game, with
Aubrey Blankenship following behind Rivera with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Freshmen
Avary Brewer, Francis Morris,
Carla Baguda and
