SPARTANBURG, SC- Samford women's basketball earned a 74–67 road victory over USC Upstate on Sunday afternoon at the G.B. Hodge Center. The win was powered by a breakout performance from freshman
Kaylee Yarbrough.
Yarbrough delivered the best game of her young career, scoring a career-high 29 points to lead all players and provide a consistent offensive spark throughout the contest.
After trailing at halftime, the Bulldogs surged in the second half, outscoring USC Upstate 47–33 over the final two quarters. Samford's defense played a key role in the turnaround, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition.
Jada Knight was especially impactful on that end of the floor, recording seven steals to go along with six points, repeatedly disrupting the Spartans' offense and creating scoring opportunities.
Briana Rivera added an important 12 points, continuing to build on her nation-leading average in three-pointers made per game. Rivera's perimeter shooting stretched the defense and played a pivotal role in Samford's offensive rhythm.
Samford's balanced effort and strong second-half execution helped the Bulldogs close out the win.
Samford will return home to the Pete Hanna Center to take on Lipscomb on Thursday, December 18, at 5:30 p.m., in a match up that will also serve as Alumni Night.
