BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford women's basketball competed in an in-town battle with UAB on Monday morning at Bartow Arena, as the Bulldogs and Blazers met for the 11th time in the series. Samford showed early energy and flashes of momentum but ultimately fell to UAB, 65-49.
Red shirt sophomore Aubrey Blankenship set the tone offensively, scoring the first basket for the Bulldogs in both the first half. Her perimeter shooting helped provide early momentum, as Blankenship connected on three three-pointers and finished with 10 points to lead Samford from beyond the arc.
Freshman Kaylee Yarbrough continued her consistent scoring stretch, recording 13 points to mark her fifth straight game scoring in double figures. Yarbrough added energy on both ends of the floor, attacking the paint and contributing defensively throughout the contest tallying two steals.
Samford remained competitive through the opening three quarters, matching UAB's scoring in the third period and continuing to fight through defensive pressure. The Bulldogs received balanced contributions across the lineup as they worked to stay within reach in the in-town match up.
Samford will continue non-conference play, traveling to Mississippi State on December 28th , with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m.
