BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —Samford women's basketball delivered a high-energy performance at the Pete Hanna Center on Sunday afternoon, pushing North Alabama to overtime before ultimately falling 68–66.
After a slow second quarter put the Bulldogs in a 30–18 halftime deficit, Samford stormed back with a dominant third-quarter run and a composed late-game push that forced overtime. The Bulldogs outscored North Alabama 22–13 in the third period, fueled by defensive stops and timely perimeter scoring.
Freshmen guard
Kaylee Yarbrough delivered a standout performance off the bench, providing the Bulldogs 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including two clutch three-pointers. She was instrumental in Samford's comeback, scoring nine straight points in the third quarter to cut into UNA's lead and later hitting key buckets in overtime.
Samford showcased depth across the lineup, with four players scoring in double figures including Yarbrough, Frances Morris had 12 points and six rebounds,
Aubrey Blankenship had 11 points and five rebounds.
Sierra Godbolt added 11 points and three steals with a key bucket that pushed the Bulldogs into overtime.
Samford entered the final minute of regulation tied 54–54 after a late basket from North Alabama. The Bulldogs again knotted the game in overtime at 66–66, however, with one second remaining, North Alabama converted a pair of free throws that sealed the two-point final margin.
Samford drops to 4–8 on the season and will continue non-conference play on the road against USC Upstate on December 14
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Spartanburg, SC.
