BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's and women's track and field program is set to host two days of events at the Samford Bulldog Invite and Open on Friday and Saturday. The events will take place at the Birmingham Crossplex as the team competes for the final time before heading to the Southern Conference Championships later in the month.
The majority of the Samford athletes are set to compete on Friday throughout the day. The Bulldogs have had standout performances throughout the indoor season so far as they have earned four SoCon Athletes of the Week.
Brenden Vanderpool set the 10th-best mark in the nation in the pole vault last week at the UAB Invite.
Carter Ellis won the same weekly honor also in the pole vault the previous week as he cleared a top-five height in indoor school history.
In Samford's opening meet of the season,
Antonina Tereshchenko and
Bradley Franklin were named conference Athletes of the Week for their performances in the women's pole vault and in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Ellison Chadwick has shined in the women's long jump with multiple top-three finishes while
Ian Jones broke into the school record book in the men's triple jump.
Jaggerd Moore and
Arthur Chitty have ben regular top-three finishers in the high jump on the men's side while
Dorsey Parker has done the same on the women's side.
As the team competes in Birmingham,
Zephaniah Carico-McLennan will compete in Boston tomorrow as he looks to individually qualify for nationals.
