BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team swept a doubleheader from Evansville on Friday at Joe Lee Griffin Field, winning the games by scores of 10-4 and 6-2 in seven innings.
With the sweep, Samford improved its record to 11-8. Evansville fell to 5-13 with the losses.
In game one, Samford starting pitcher
Miller Riggins (2-1) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five batters to earn the win on the mound for the Bulldogs.
Noah Berry pitched a third of an inning and
Evan Steckmesser pitched the final 2.2 innings without allowing a run.
Offensively in game one for Samford,
Parker McDonald went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI.

Cade Carr,
Jake Souders and
Gus Gandy had two hits each for Samford in the first game.
For Evansville in game one, Aaron Nehls went 3-for-4, while Drew Howard went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Owen Byberg (0-2) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on five hits to take the loss.
After a scoreless first inning, Samford scored a run in each of the second, third and fourth innings, while Evansville scored a run in the third inning as Samford built a 3-1 lead. Samford pushed its lead to 6-1 with three runs in the fifth inning, with two of those coming on a home run by McDonald.
Samford added two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh, while Evansville scored a run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to make the final score 10-4.
In the second game, Samford's
Cameron Keshock (3-0) tossed 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out seven batters to earn the win on the mound.
Trey Sanders pitched the final inning without allowing a run.
McDonald hit his second home run of the day and third of the season in game two, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.
Trey Higgins went 2-for-3, while Carr drove in a run, going 1-for-3.
Evansville was led in game two by Ty Rumsey, going 2-for-4. Charlie Longmeier homered, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. Jack Wills (0-1) pitched two thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits to take the loss for the Purple Aces.
Samford plated two runs in the first inning and two more in the third to take an early 4-0 lead. After Evansville plated a run in the top of the fourth inning, Samford added a run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-1. Each team scored a run in the sixth inning as Samford came away with the 6-2 win.
The teams will conclude the series with a single game Sunday. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
