SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior pitcher
Miller Riggins was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week when the league released its weekly baseball awards Monday afternoon.
This is the third-straight week a Samford pitcher has been named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week as
Josh Leerssen and
Mason Blasche earned the honor the last two weeks.
Riggins pitched the complete 7.0 innings to earn the win in Friday night's 14-0 run-rule win at Wofford. He allowed just three hits and struck out five batters in earning the win. He held opposing batters to a .130 batting average.
For the season, Riggins has a record of 3-2 and a 4.87 ERA in a team-high 40.2 innings of work. He has recorded 40 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .217 average.
Next up, Samford will play host to the West Georgia Wolves on Tuesday, April 8. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
