Samford Baseball To Take On National Champion LSU In Fall Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – As the Samford baseball team gets set to begin its full fall season in preparation for the spring season, the Bulldogs will also be getting ready to play defending National Champions LSU in a fall game for the second season in a row. The game will be played at Keesler Federal Park, the home of the Biloxi Shuckers, on Sunday, November 2.

The Tigers are considered by most to be one of the favorites to win the national championship again this season.

"The fall is an exciting time in its own way as we get started with a mix of returning players with new guys and tons of hope about the upcoming season," Samford head coach Tony David said. "This time of year is about individual development and our guys getting significantly better each day. We are grateful to have the opportunity from Coach Johnson to compete once again with LSU this fall."

Playing Samford in the fall has proven to be a good road map for success with each of the last two national champions playing the Dogs in the fall.

"Tennessee two years ago and LSU last fall ended up winning it all in the spring," David said. "I'd love to think there is a direct correlation between them playing us and their success, but life is full of coincidences. I do know that we are better through playing this type of competition."

Samford has made a tradition of playing fall games in Biloxi over the last several years. This is the second year in a row and marks the fourth time in five seasons with Tony David as head coach for Samford to play a fall game there.

"I am from the area," David said. "We played here my first fall as head coach and they have been great partners for us to come down each year. They have college teams down every spring, and we hope to eventually return during the regular season in the near future."

The two teams will play a large number of innings on the day with the game starting around 11 a.m. Tickets are currently on sale at the following link: PURCHASE TICKETS.
