SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford softball team had two players receive individual accolades for two of their players from the Southern Conference office this afternoon as Grier Bruce took home Player of the Week honors and Jordyn Partain was named Pitcher of the Week. The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-1 week where they swept ETSU at home this weekend and remain atop the SoCon standings with an 8-1 league record and sit at 26-15 overall.

Grier Bruce was named SoCon Player of the Week after her performance in the single game at Alabam in the midweek and a three-game series against ETSU. The Bulldog infielder went 6-for-12 at the plate with three doubles, a triple, and a home run. The Georgia native drove in four runs while also scoring four runs. The Dogs outscored ETSU 30-6 over the three-game series as they have swept the past six games against SoCon opponents. Bruce is now hitting .319 on the year with an OPS of .927 while having 16 extra-base hits and 32 RBIs.

The Bulldogs swept the weekly awards as they had Jordyn Partain earn SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors. The Samford ace started two games this weekend against the ETSU Buccaneers, game one and three of the series, where the Dogs won 11-0 and 10-2 by run rule in five innings. The Georgia native went 2-0 while pitching 10 innings, striking out seven, and allowing zero earned runs. The Bulldog ace moved her season record to 12-8 and is second in the league in shutouts (4) and appearances (24).

Samford has a big week ahead as they are set to face West Georgia on the road on Wednesday before traveling to fave UNCG this weekend. The SoCon matchup against the Spartans will feature the two teams atop the league standings as the Spartans carry a 30-10 record and a 7-2 conference mark.
