BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team returns home this weekend to host Wofford in the season finale series in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs will also honor six seniors prior to the opening game of the series tomorrow night. Samford enters the series with a 30-21 record overall and an 11-7 SoCon record while the Terriers sit at 30-19 and 11-7 in the conference.
The Bulldogs look to bounce back from a series defeat at Chattanooga last time they were in action. Samford fell out of a tie for first place in the SoCon as they were swept by the Mocs.
Samford and Wofford meet for the fifth all-time meeting as the Terriers are in their second season as a program. The Bulldogs won three of four games when the two sides met last year. Samford brings in one of the best offenses in the conference as they are second in runs scored and lead the SoCon in batting average.
Olivia Shaw continues to be top-five in nearly every offensive category in the league as she leads with 21 doubles.
Jordyn Partain has lowered her earned run average to 3.50 on the season after two solid outings at Chattanooga last weekend. Freshman
Olivia Treece carries a 7-1 record on the season and a team-best 3.11 ERA.Â
Samford is set to honor six seniors this weekend,
Sarah Squillace,
Grier Bruce,
Logan Champion,
McKayla Cothran,
Linsey Hargis, and
Jordyn Partain.
The Dogs and Terriers sit in a tie for third place in the SoCon, as the pair is one game back of UNCG and three behind leaders Chattanooga. The winner of the series keeps alive a chance at the number two seed and a first-round bye in next week's SoCon Tournament.Â
