GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. SOUTH ALABAMA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will play its home opener for the 2025 season when the Bulldogs play host to South Alabama Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field.
Samford and South Alabama have met four times, with the series tied at 1-1-2. The teams last met in 2016, with the game ending in a 0-0 tie in Mobile. Samford has an all-time record of 35-10-7 against the current members of the Sun Belt Conference. Samford has played the following Sun Belt teams: Appalachian State (6-0-1), Arkansas State (1-0), Coastal Carolina (1-0-1), Georgia Southern (9-1-2), Georgia State (2-5-1),Marshall (1-0), South Alabama (1-1-2), Southern Miss (2-3), Texas State 1-0) and Troy (11-1).
Samford enters Thursday night's game with a record of 0-1-1. The Bulldogs played at Auburn Sunday evening, with the game finishing in a 0-0 draw.
So far this season,
Sam De Luca and
Clare Nicholas have one goal each.
Isa Moreno and
Sarah Holland have an assist each for the Bulldogs. Samford goalkeeper
Peyton Hull posted her first shutout of the season in the 0-0 draw at Auburn last Sunday. She saved four shots in keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard for the complete 90 minutes of the contest.
South Alabama enters the game with a record of 1-1-0 on the young season. The Jaguars have a 2-0 loss at LSU and a 2-0 win over Tennessee Tech so far this season.
So far this season for USA, Melina Descary and Andrea Iljkic have one goal each, while Sofia Ferrante and Victoria Rocci have one assist each.
