OXFORD, Miss. – The Samford baseball team split a pair of exhibition games at 2026 College World Series participant Ole Miss Sunday afternoon. Ole Miss won the first game, 9-3, and Samford took game two, 5-1.
Â
"It was a really good day for our guys," Samford head coach Tony David said. "It was not perfect by any stretch. We only had one really tough inning on the mound. We played and pitched a lot of freshmen that all did well. We threw 11 different arms with good success. We have a long way to go but this was a good start to the fall games."
Â
In the win in game two, Gus Gandy, Cade Carr and A.J. Cruz all had solo home runs. Chance Dixon and Diego Gonzalez had an RBI single each.
Â
On the mound, Will Andre, Garrett Reid, Burton Moore and Chris Fagot all threw scoreless innings. Ryan Vermillion came in to get the final two outs to close out the win in game two.
Â
Next up, Samford will play at another 2026 College World Series participant in Troy on Saturday, Oct. 17. The first pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field.
